I’m Luke, and this is Johnson Company Woodworking.
My name is Luke Johnson, and I live in Huntsville, AL. Growing up on a farm in rural Tennessee, I have always gravitated towards working with my hands building and fixing things. I graduated from the University of Alabama Huntsville with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2015. I worked as a full time engineer, primarily on space flight hardware for NASA, until July 2020. That’s when I decided take the plunge, and focus all of my efforts into Johnson Co. Woodworking.
I have always worked with wood. Although, most of the time it was just to solve some problem that needed solving. It was never to meet an aesthetic goal. Along the way, I gained new appreciation for the beauty and work-ability of hardwoods; particularly those found in our region of the country. I have found extreme joy in designing and building custom pieces with these regional hardwoods including black walnut, maple, cherry, poplar, white oak, red oak, and others. Johnson Company Woodworking is my way of extending that joy to those around me.
When it comes to furniture, there is a special appeal to being able to design exactly the piece you want, as opposed to shopping from a pre-stocked inventory. There is also a great sense of pride in knowing that you now have a one-of-a-kind piece that is totally unique.
